Weather proofing, the name itself explains itself. It refers to the pieces of thin and sleek metal sheets or some kind of imperviable material that is used to prevent the flow of water into a particular structure through a joint or an angle. It is usually seen that if water penetrates into a joint it has to work upwards going against the gravitational force or if it’s driven by rainy winds it has to flow along with the windy paths where the forceful flow gets dispersed. Usually the exteriors of the building materials are assembled with a discontinuing profile to restrict the water surface tautness. It is basically useful to avail protection from the outside weather conditions to enter our homes and buildings.
Weather proofing can be done in two forms, it can either be in an exposed form or in concealed from. The exposed weather proofing is usually made of metal sheets, the metals such as copper, aluminum, steel, lead, galvanized painted sheets or zinc alloys. Such sheets that are made out of these different metals need to be provided with the necessary expansion joints to prevent them from deformation on a long run. The metal that is used for the weather proofing should not be stained or prone to get stained by any external climatic conditions or get activated into a chemical reaction.
The concealed weather proofing in a building assembly consists of sheet metal or water proofing layer or membrane like a plastic sheet or bituminous fabric or any such material depending on the climatic conditions and the structural necessities and requirements. You have to be very careful while choosing the proper metal for a durable and safe weather proofing as there are some weather proofing materials that can dissipate if exposed to sunlight. In the modern times we can even get plastic sheets or rubber sheets and other such synthetic materials that are water proof and can prevent the flow of water within but the stainless steel sheets are one of the most commonly used sheets as it is highly water resistant and lightweight and rust proof too, lasting in its durability.
The weather proofing is mostly placed in areas around the angels or blocks that pop up inside the building mostly from the roof areas, mostly near the chimneys and pipes where there are chances of water to flow and penetrate inside the building. Such weather proofing keeps the water from penetrating into the ruckles or joints from the edges of the roofs. Weather proofing can be done in various areas as and when required, there are types of such weather proofing depending on the areas that are affected or in need to get covered, like wall weather proofing, sill weather proofing, base weather proofing etc.
The conventional weather proofing is found to be much durable than the modern weather proofing, the lead metal sheet can be retained for years and years as compared to the modern rubber or synthetic weather proofing sheets. It is always advisable to get your home or work place coated with these weather proofing sheets as per your requirements in order to prevent your buildings to get affected by the external unwanted properties that can damage the internal beauty and hygiene of your building keeping it intact for several years.
